Empowered to Retain Blessings (2 Sam 5:3) [Sun 11th June 2023]

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ. Today, we gather here to delve into the Word of God and explore a powerful message from 2 Samuel 5:3. In this verse, we find valuable insights that will help us understand how we can be empowered to retain the blessings that God pours upon us. Let us pray and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we dive into this sermon.

I. Recognizing God’s Anointing (2 Samuel 5:3a)

In the first part of our verse, we read about the leaders of Israel acknowledging David as their king. David was anointed by God to be the king of Israel. It is essential for us to recognize that the blessings we receive in life come from God, and they often flow through the anointing He places upon certain individuals or situations.

As believers, we too have received an anointing through the Holy Spirit (1 John 2:20). It is this anointing that empowers us to fulfill the purposes God has for our lives. When we acknowledge and embrace God’s anointing upon us, we position ourselves to receive and retain His blessings.

II. Unity Among God’s People (2 Samuel 5:3b)

The second part of our verse highlights the importance of unity among the people of God. The elders of Israel recognized that it was through their unity and support that David could truly lead them. In the same way, as a church and as believers, our unity is vital to retaining God’s blessings.

When we stand together in love, harmony, and understanding, God commands His blessings (Psalm 133:1-3). Divisions and strife can hinder the flow of God’s blessings in our lives. Let us, therefore, strive for unity in the church and in our relationships, for it is in that unity that we become empowered to retain the blessings God bestows upon us.

III. Trusting in God’s Promises (2 Samuel 5:3c)

Lastly, we come to the final part of our verse, where the leaders reaffirm God’s promise to David. God had promised David that He would make him a great leader and give him victory over his enemies. David trusted in those promises, and through his faith and obedience, he experienced the fulfillment of God’s word.

Likewise, to retain God’s blessings, we must trust in His promises found in His Word. God’s promises are true and unchanging (Hebrews 6:17-19), and as we stand firm on them, we position ourselves to receive and hold on to the blessings God has in store for us.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, dear brothers and sisters, let us be empowered to retain the blessings God pours upon us by:

  1. Recognizing God’s anointing upon our lives and embracing the call He has for us.
  2. Cultivating unity among the body of Christ, supporting and loving one another.
  3. Trusting in God’s promises and faithfully following His Word.

As we walk in alignment with God’s will, we can be confident that His blessings will abound in our lives. May we be a people who bring glory to His name by being faithful stewards of the blessings He bestows upon us. Let us pray for God’s grace and guidance in this journey of empowerment to retain His blessings. Amen.
